What Makes a Useful Geometry Handoff?

The receiving team should know what the files represent, how to place them and what remains to be done. Agree the format, coordinates, scope, review method and ownership of derived models before delivery.

Name the Receiving Workflow

Ask the projection studio, scenic team or AV integrator which software will receive the data and what task it must support. Reviewing measured conditions, creating a projection surface model and preparing media templates can require different deliverables. A format extension alone does not answer those needs.

Keep the measured point cloud and derived surface model distinct. Define who creates any mesh, simplifies geometry, prepares UV coordinates or builds content templates. These are separately agreed responsibilities; they should not become implied additions to a capture scope.

Include a Short Delivery Note

  • Purpose, captured areas and known exclusions.
  • File names, formats and revision identifiers.
  • Units, origin, orientation and transformations.
  • Capture date and relevant site changes since capture.
  • Agreed review information and the person approving acceptance.

Test the Handoff in the Actual Application

Review a small representative sample early. Check placement, scale, recognizable surfaces and usable detail with the person who will work in the receiving application. For a derived model, review which features were simplified or omitted and whether its surfaces match the intended production use.

After delivery, record the accepted revision and establish how changes are requested. If a later set alteration affects the canvas, decide whether the existing reference is still adequate or whether an update is needed. This keeps data review connected to the production schedule.

Keep Show Integration in the Plan

Geometry supports downstream work. Media design, projector selection, system integration and final calibration still belong to the relevant production teams. Include those handoffs in Our Process and the project schedule.
